Dogs aren’t wired the same way as humans. They’re motivated by mail deliveries, endless games of fetch and belly rubs. So when it comes to taking selfies with your domesticated companion, getting it to look into the camera with everyone else can take hours of preparation. To boost your chances of a social media-approved selfie with your pet, check out the Pooch Selfie.

“As any dog owner will tell you, it is difficult to get your pet to sit still long enough for a picture, let alone catch them looking into the camera,” said the company. “A selfie with your dog is nearly an impossible task. Pooch Selfie takes advantage of a dog’s natural draw and focus to a tennis ball and uses this focus to hold their gaze as you snap away that perfect portrait picture.”

Working the Tennis Ball Charm

The Pooch Selfie is an attachment that fits at the top of your smartphone or Android, iOS and standard tablets (basically all of your handheld devices). The mount allows you to secure a tennis ball at the head of your phone during a selfie-taking session. There’s no complicated app to install or anything to charge. After slipping the gadget on, you’re good to go.

“We absolutely LOVE our dogs. As pet lovers, we are unable to help ourselves from taking tons of pictures of them,” wrote the company on the official Kickstarter page. “Sometimes you just want to grab a shot of their good looking mug and share it with the world!”

When you get the shot you want, you can remove the hypnotic ball and play a round of fetch as a reward. Eventually, your canine friend will associate the attachment with playtime and will want to cooperate with you in exchange for some selfies.

It’s important to note that the mobile accessory works for the traditional rear shooter and the front-facing camera. You could also turn your phone sideways and clip it on horizontally.

Instant Results in Half the Time

Dogs love the ball; you’ll love the results. The Pooch Selfie can buy you time to get that perfect shot you’ve always dreamed about with your beloved pet. With an extra three seconds (or more) of focus, you could confidently throw on a duck face, a reassuring wink or a quirky sign at the camera.

In case your dog gets distracted in the middle of the session, you can woo it back into the shot by removing the ball from the contraption. The fetch toy that comes with the device squeaks – a sound that your four-legged buddy can’t resist!

Ordering on Kickstarter

The best way to get your hands on the gadget is through the brand’s Kickstarter campaign. As you might’ve guessed, all of the early bird packages have been snatched up by hardcore dog lovers around the world. But you can still get one for a mere $13. A five-pack is also available at a discounted price of $58. Estimated period of delivery is scheduled for December 2015, just in time for an adorable Christmas-themed selfie with you and your pet wearing matching Santa Claus hats.
