It’s summer, and obviously you’re going to want to document all your summer vacation shenanigans with photo after photo after photo. With that said, you’re going to need a camera that can give justice to all the amazing adventures you’ll have, and will be able to withstand those hot, sandy, water soaked environments you’ll be journeying too. GoPros have been the be-all and end-all action cameras for a while now, but a new action cam has stormed its way to the market that may give GoPro a run for its money.
Recently launched on Kickstarter, Octospot is a 4K action camera that was specifically designed with divers in mind, meaning it’s the best waterproof action cam you can conceivably buy. Designed by actual divers, Octospot is meant to go where no camera has gone before: the depths of the ocean. Waterproof up to an incredible 656 feet, Octospot completely annihilates GoPro’s waterproof capabilities, able to be submerged more than five times deeper than its competitor – and that’s without a protective case.
Octospot was built as an accessible and effortless camera for divers and can be easily operated while wearing a full-blown scuba suit complete with gloves. The camera will track dive data onto video you record using it, and will even adjust white balance based on pressure as you sink deeper into the oceanic abyss. The Kickstarter campaign has already well surpassed its funding goal, so clearly Octospot is poised to go mano y mano with GoPro. Early birds can pledge $370 for Octospot, a universal mount and mask mount. The expected retail price is $600. Whether you’re surfing, swimming, diving or hanging out with the sharks and dolphins, Octospot will capture it all.
