As we all get to sculpting and spray-tanning our bodies to oblivion with the impending arrival of summer, Instagram has decided to work on itself a little too by going the makeover route. The social media app unveiled a brand new logo and in-app aesthetic, taking the streamlined, minimalist approach in order to place more emphasis on the photos, videos and content that populate the platform. With this new look, Instagram has undeniably adopted the attitude that less is more.
Instagram isn’t the only platform whose logo received an ambush makeover – Insta-owned apps Hyperlapse, Layout and Boomerang also debuted updated logos matching the style and aesthetic of Instagram’s, creating a more unified brand image. The main idea for these new logos was taking the famous rainbow that was a staple of the old Instagram logo and transforming it into a gradient that defines the background colors of these new logos.
While the surface look of Instagram will undoubtedly prove fairly easy to adjust to, launching the app and seeing the major changes to the look internally might take a bit longer. The Instagram interface has gone through a major overhaul, adopting a more simplistic black and white design that they hope will place more focus on the content without changing the way people navigate through the app. Devoid of any color, the interface has a stripped down look that only highlights the colors that appear in photos and videos, making them pop even more. Despite the new look, nothing about Instagram’s functionality has changed. Sometimes all it takes is a fresh new look to get people talking.
