Those of you who have always wanted to be your very own makeshift fashion designer are now in luck – Garmin has debuted a brand new app that enables users to unleash their inner creative and design watch faces for their line of smartwatches and wearables. The app, cutely dubbed Face-It, is compatible with all of Garmin’s Connect IQ devices including multiple Forerunner models, the Fenix 3, Vivoactive and Vivoactive HR. The main design pool driving the app is a user’s camera roll, where they can upload any photo saved on their phone and rework them into watch faces for their Garmin wearables.
Face-It couldn’t be any easier to operate. Simply download the app from the App Store or Google Play and draw it up on your phone. Then, upload an image from your photo library to serve as the design for your new watch face. Users can choose to have their watch face be either digital or analog depending on their preference. Once you’ve finished crafting your watch face, simply press a button in the app that will then send this new design straight to your wearable device. Garmin Connect takes care of all the dirty work, meaning all you have to do is sync your wearable or smartwatch as you normally would in order to reap the aesthetic benefits of your pristine design.
Don’t expect high quality watch faces, though – Garmin is notorious for low-res screens and faces on their wearable devices in order to preserve battery life. Still, the easy and fun customization options that the Face-It app offers are much appreciated, granting users just a pinch more freedom in catering their wearable devices to their own unique style. Face-It is definitely a step in the right direction for Garmin, and shows that the company is serious about establishing a firm, reputable space in the wearable field. If nothing else, Face-It is a great way for Garmin users to feel like they have a say in what their devices can look like. Make it work!
