While sometimes you might bemoan your caffeine addiction (especially when it comes to your wallet), imbibing a mug’s worth or two of coffee can actually be quite beneficial to your overall health and wellness in the long run. To celebrate National Coffee Day, here are four ways your daily roast can actually give your body a boost.
1. Cardiovascular Protection
While you shouldn’t completely eschew a solid cardio workout, coffee can be quite the heart booster. A Japanese study reveals that getting in your daily dose of coffee can be key to heart health. Out of 76,000 male participants, those who consumed one or two cups a day reduced their risk of falling prey to cardiovascular disease by percentages as high as 38%.
2. Better Mental Health
According to the Harvard School of Public Health, coffee acts as somewhat of an antidepressant due to its production of serotonin, dopamine, noradrenaline and antioxidant contents. As such, they conducted a study and found correlating data that men and women who drank two to four cups of coffee a day were 50% less likely to be at risk of suicide.
3. Diabetes Defender
From 1986 to 1998, Harvard researchers tracked the occurrence of type-2 diabetes compared to coffee consumption in more than 40,000 men. The results show that those who were long-term coffee drinkers were way less at risk for developing type-2 diabetes. What’s more, the data even indicated that the more coffee they consumed, the more the risk continued to diminish.
4. Reduces Chances of Skin Cancer
After keeping up with 112,897 men and women over a period of 20 years, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School came to the conclusion that women who indulge in three or more cups of Joe every day are considerably less likely to develop skin cancer as opposed to women who do not intake the caffeinated beverage.
