Whether you’re a photographer, photojournalist, videographer, photo educator or student, you’ve probably heard of the PhotoPlus International Conference + Expo. The largest photography and imaging conference in all of North America, the PhotoPlus Expo boasts an attendance of more than 21,000 photo enthusiasts from all over the globe, upwards of 250 big name exhibitors with their latest products and even 100+ educational seminars for attendees. Expos on such massive scales like this can sometimes be a little overwhelming, but they’re great opportunities to check out what’s up-and-coming in the industry. Here are the four reasons you’ll want to be present at the 2016 conference in New York City this October 20-22!

1. Fantastic keynote speakers

On Friday, October 21st, Senior Photography Editor as UNICEF, Christine Nesbitt Hills, will be moderating a panel of amazing talents like Jessica Dimmock, Ron Haviv and Ashley Gilbertson. Join these photographers as they discuss what it means to be a visual storyteller in this day and age, touching on integrity, dedication and making a connection with your audience.

The following day on October 22nd, enjoy a presentation of “Beneath the Thin Blue Line” by National Geographic photographers Paul Nicklen and Cristina Mittermeier. As co-founder of SeaLegacy, this duo has set out to create media narratives around our oceans and how we can help preserve and protect them. If you’re particularly passionate about environmental issues, you don’t want to skip out on this lecture on how you can use your work with images to help save the Earth.

2. New intensive classes

In addition to the usual 2-hour master classes, this year the expo has added brand new 5-hour intensive classes. If you’re interested in really honing in on one particular skill of yours, check out the classes in Photoshop, Lightroom, Lighting, Editing & Sequencing for Print, Wedding, and Final Cut X – all of which will be taught by leading experts in the industry. Five hours of your time is a small temporal price to pay for the newfound understanding and skills you’ll be able to walk away with!

3. Industry leading exhibitors

Canon U.S.A., FUJIFILM North America Corporation, KODAK PIXPRO, Leica Camera Inc., Lomography, Nikon Inc., Olympus America Inc., Panasonic Corp of North America, Ricoh Imaging / PENTAX, SanDisk Corp, Sigma, Sony and Tamron USA Inc. are just a small, small handful of the photo-related companies holding court at PhotoPlus 2016. Businesses love using expos and conventions like this to show off brand new and soon-to-launch products, so you’ll be getting an up close and personal first look at new gadgets and services – it doesn’t get much better than that.

4. Photo walks

Who doesn’t love a good photo walk? This expo offers intimate photo walks, hosted by some of the biggest photography names in the game. Not only do you get the opportunity to brush up on and enhance your technical and compositional skills, but you also get to test out new products and photo gear in the process – no downsides to be found.
