Coachella has always relied heavily on spectacle, but this year they've outdone themselves. For the first time, the art has been commissioned solely for Coachella instead of being reused from another festival - and it's bigger than ever. Virtual reality is spreading so fast, we’re at the point where consummate actor Robert DeNiro is regaling Jimmy Fallon with stories about his experience in VR on The Tonight Show. If anyone needed evidence suggesting that virtual reality is more than just a flash in the pan, this should undoubtedly serve as Exhibit A. Exhibit B would be the sheer amount of films and documentaries that have incorporated virtual reality technology into the filmmaking process at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. ESPN Set to Broadcast Drone Racing for the First Time This Summer

ESPN has bit the bullet and officially dubbed drone racing a sport, if the sport network’s latest deal is any indication. Under this deal, ESPN will be the first network to broadcast competitive drone racing on television, validating drone racing as a legitimate competitive sport. The inaugural televised drone race will be the 2016 National Drone Racing Championship taking place on Governors Island in New York City from August 5-7. This deal places a lot of faith into the slowly growing popularity and fandom surrounding drone racing, which still remains a relatively niche sport.
