Beam Me Up, Scotty! Star Trek Is (Yet Again) Returning to Television

Red alert! CBS is boldly preparing to go where quite a few men, women, androids and Klingons alike have gone before: space, the final frontier. Television super producer Alex Kurtzman will executive produce a brand new Star Trek series, the first since Star Trek: Enterprise left airwaves in 2005. Kurtzman, of course, is no veteran to the spacey franchise – he’s responsible for co-writing and producing the latest incarnation of Star Trek films starring Chris Pine as the iconic Captain James T. Kirk. Reportedly, this new Star Trek series will debut on CBS in January 2017, just a few months shy of the 50th anniversary of the original series, which debuted in September of 1966. This new chapter of the Star...

Twitter Gets Desperate, Launches First Television Ad Campaign

Twitter is doing everything it can to stay relevant in the unforgiving tech space. Earlier this month, the company released its first-ever television ad during the World Series. The commercial was a garbled display of content options you can post on the site. Moments, a new feature that allows you to scan through trending posts, was the highlight of the 30-second ad. In case you missed it, here’s the clip: Many thought the commercial reeked of desperation. The platform suffered numerous blows this year, leaving some to question its ability to compete with other social media giants in the field. But Twitter isn’t going down without a fight, and this was the first sign of the group going to battle in the mainstream arena. Behind the...

GIF the Night Away with DSCO

Arguably one of Instagram’s only real competitors, VSCO has decided to shimmy its way into GIF creation after the recent launch of Instagram’s Boomerang app by releasing DSCO, their latest app for, you guessed it, creating GIFs. Hailed as VSCO’s first-ever pop-up app, DSCO makes the funky, funky promise of letting users capture, edit and share animated GIFs ‘til their fever subsides. So, just how does DSCO differ from Instagram’s Boomerang? For starters, DSCO allows you to record for up to 2.5 seconds to create your daffy GIFS, a 150% increase in time over Boomerang’s “wait, did I miss it?” one second. DSCO also shoots MP4 video, converting that into a GIF that you can edit with VSCO’s built-in filters and...

GoPro’s Unreleased Drone Is Already Making Huge Waves

Is GoPro being a little tease? Yes, though when they tease oh so well, who can blame them? Set to launch its first-ever drone sometime in the first half of 2016, GoPro is already whetting the appetites of camera, tech and drone fanatics alike with recently released footage shot using the company’s prototype drone. The footage itself is captured using GoPro’s Hero 4 model, but what’s impressive is just how steady, crisp and clear the footage remains despite the equipment being housed on a moving drone. And GoPro is quick to toot its own horn: the video adamantly states the footage has not been altered in post-production. Check it out for yourself below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JADCZuSOQRU...

Women and Girls Lead Global: Storytelling And Technology Creating Social Change Around The World

Everyone has a story to tell. However, many people's voices are stifled due to the environment or circumstance that they find themselves in. Be it overcrowded classrooms, impoverished nations or under a regime that persecutes minorities, many don’t have a platform to deliver their stories or more importantly, speak their truth - especially women and girls. Film is one of the most powerful mediums to not only present stories, but to inspire millions of individuals across the world to partner with their communities and transform lives; this is the message behind Women and Girls Lead Global (WGLG). WGLG is a multimedia campaign in partnership with ITVS, USAID, Ford Foundation and CARE designed to spark real change on global challenges like gender-based...
